Our Doctor
Dr. Yvonne Umezurike is a board-certified podiatrist with extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. Her passion for medicine was ignited at just nine years old, and her commitment to podiatry solidified after her grandmother endured the amputation of both feet. She vowed to prevent other families from experiencing similar hardships.
Dr. Umezurike earned her undergraduate degree from Duke University graduating on the Honor Roll. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from Temple School of Podiatric Medicine, graduating with honors. While there, she held key leadership roles, serving as Student Body Vice President and President during her second and third years, respectively, and also won the E. Louis Gray Academic Scholarship for academic execellence. Her surgical residency at Aria Health equipped her with advanced skills in reconstructive foot surgery, trauma, and diabetic foot management. During her residency, she was awarded the prestigious Evelyn D. Witkin Award, recognizing her poise, efficiency, and empathy. She also pursued additional training in cultural competency, further enhancing her ability to provide compassionate, culturally aware care.
After completing her training, Dr. Umezurike spent two years at an orthopedic practice and three years at a podiatry practice. In 2011, she acquired a podiatry practice, originally founded in 1970, transforming it into Umez Podiatry while retaining its loyal patients and welcoming new ones.
A respected leader in her field, Dr. Umezurike has served two terms as President of the Maryland State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, overseeing the licensure and regulation of podiatrists across the state. She is also certified in wound care by the American Professional Wound Care Association and holds affiliations with MedStar Union Memorial and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospitals.
Dr. Umezurike’s expertise encompasses Achilles injuries, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, pediatric foot issues, and sports injuries. She offers advanced treatments, including custom orthotics, diabetic shoes.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Umezurike enjoys spending time with her husband, Attorney Calvin Umezurike, and their two children, Bianca and Blake.
